One of THOSE kids

My girls are pretty well behaved. They have their moments, but they are good children. Last night, they were one of THOSE kids you wonder if the parents ever discipline or keep an eye on them in stores. They were running wild!
Monday’s are usually the day everybody is tired from a new work/daycare week. I had stopped to visit a relative before they had surgery and so was a good 40 minutes late picking the girls up. Also, we barely made it to the gas station before running out of gas. We then arrived got home only to get back in the car to head to the bank and get something to eat with Daddy. They had been fussy and crying pretty much since we got in the car at daycare. It didn’t get better with food (hamburghers). Bug whined, sobbed, and pleaded for her binkie (but we didn’t bring one), Littlest just whined and cried because she was tired. Admidst all of this, Daddy decides he wants to go to the Humane Society’s thrift store. I figured it would be a good distraction for the girls. Right away, Littest was on the move. If you don’t contain her in a shopping cart, she runs willy nilly all over the place and suddenly becomes deaf. I had Bug (who gets excited in these places) and Daddy had Littlest. The quiet lasted for about 2 seconds. Soon you could hear Daddy and I trying to keep our children under control. Still no luck. Next thing I know, Bug has loaded a small rolling cart with “breakfast” which consisted of 4-5 potpurri bags and started rolling it everywhere. Littlest had a luggage cart and was rolling that around. It kept them quiet for another few minutes until Bug started chasing Littlest in between the clothes racks. The clothes racks are so close together you can’t really see anything and when you are small, it’s the perfect place to play. Soon they were giggling and laughing and running everywhere and in front of everybody. We finally caught up to them and we each grabbed a child. Then the loud sobbing and whining began again. Daddy had found two books, so he took Bug out to the car because she was sooo loud and I held onto the now charming-the-pants-off-the-checker Littlest. I told Littlest to tell the workers she was sorry she was being Naughty Claire. Of course, now the everyone thought she was the cutest thing in the world. Grrrr! Once we got home, moods changed and Littlest didn’t want to go to bed. She was too busy naming body parts, giving hugs, and playing peek-a-boo. Bug was engrossed with “Dancing with the Stars” and had to dance. She has quite a routine going with a big finish and a “Ta Daaa!”
Frustrating, but gosh you gotta love them!

I just gotta tell ya MY naughty kid(s) moment! I took all three kids to Babies R Us (what possessed me, I don’t know!) The boys were about 9 & 5 or 8 & 4, I’m not sure anymore. Anyway they were really into playing spies and were doing so with me around all the corners. At one point they asked to go over near the car seats and, after a short “behave yourself” lecture, I let them. In the meantime I had to do something at the customer service counter and of course there was someone ahead of me. As I stood there, with my back to the clothing department, a clerk came up behind me. Talking over my head to the customer service clerk she says, “could you please page a mother for me? I’m not even sure who it is but there are two kids running through the clothes and pulling everything off the racks.” They were supposed to be in car seats but somehow, I just knew immediately. I think I muttered something about them probably being mine and took off after them. After making them pick everything up and apologize to the nearest clerk we made a beeline out of that store! I could have killed them!!! So, see it doesn’t get much better even as they get older!
