The View from Trump Towers Vancouver

Another exciting day in paradise - HA! First, Mighty Mouse seems to be doing great and has been stable since Saturday. Today she weighs 2 pounds 4 ounces. Second, my surgery will probably happen on Tuesday afternoon  and I can go home Wednesday. They didn’t find any stones in the duct during ERCP, but it had “sludge” which was causing problems. Also, there still are stones in the gallbladder. They still aren’t feeding me! I have to sneak ice chips. Can anybody freeze C*ca Cola into ice chips? Now that would be Heaven! Grandma K is on her way over again to come help out Dad and Nana. I’m afraid Dad is going to run away…it’s all pretty overwhelming and they aren’t giving him Dilaudid to help him through. He has been doing great though and hanging in there, even managed to handle a hysterical me Saturday. He has been good with Bug and she loves being with her Daddy.

I have to say that I think Mighty Mouse has a much better view than I do. She can see Mt. Hood, the river and the city, but my view is pretty awesome.

Another Craptacular Day

Just when I thought yesterday was bad enough, it got worse. I hadn’t been feeling too good all day, but went on as always. After getting home from seeing Mighty Mouse, Bug and I laid down to take a nap. I woke up with the most horrible abdominal and back pain. Dear husband finally convinced me to go to the emergency room because I couldn’t stop crying from the pain. Well, now I’m in the hospital (and have been since Saturday night). I have gallstones, elevated liver and pancreatic enzymes with just a touch of a mild fever. Today they did an ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) to check the duct for stones and then probably tomorrow I will have my gallbladder removed. I could wait a while to have surgery, but considering I’m already off work and once Mighty Mouse comes home, there won’t be any time, I think now is the time. I can’t eat or drink anything - so that wonderful little Burgerville cheeseburger on Saturday was my last meal - I knew I should have gone for the Colossal!

It kills me that I can’t spend time with either one of my little girls, but they are in good hands and everyone is pitching in (again).

Thank you everyone for your prayers and well wishes. Hopefully after this new problem is taken care of, everything will start to settle down and be a bit calmer.

One scary step back

Yesterday was a scary day for Mighty Mouse. In the morning she had a major apneic episode (where she stopped breathing for more than 20 seconds). It was bad enough that they took her off CPAP and reintubated her so now she is back on the vent. Her blood gases were pretty bad. They suspected she had some sort of infection and did blood work, which came back fairly normal, so she didn’t need antibiotics, but they are still growing out a blood culture. They also did a chest x-ray, which was normal. She did need a blood transfusion and that seemed to help tremendously. It was hard hearing and seeing my little girl having such a hard time. I think we have been rather naive about how serious things are. She always seems to be doing so well and the nurses are usually pretty optomistic in their reports to us, but then again it’s a good thing they are, otherwise it would be unbearably overwhelming.
